The feasibility study and conceptual design for the Durrës-Prishtina railway were presented at a ceremony held in Shkodra on Monday.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday morning, Albania's Minister of Infrastructure, Belinda Balluku, called the construction of the "Red and Black" railway a new chapter.
"A concrete step towards the implementation of a national project, which brings us even closer by opening a new chapter between the two countries and beyond, through the promotion of exchanges, movement and economic development. With determination, a clear objective and impatience to move forward as quickly as possible and without wasting time on this national work," she wrote.
Balluku announced that this railway will be 105.8 kilometers long, will have 43 bridges, 14 tunnels and seven new stations. Along the way, it will pass from Shkodra to Gjakova.
According to the presented project, there will be nine passenger train trips that will run per day. If the train stops at every station, the full journey will be from Durres to Pristina in 5 hours and 54 minutes. While if it comes to regional trains that stop only at the main stations, the route will be shorter – three hours and 40 minutes.
The current estimate is that the entire project will cost 1.8 billion euros.
