The Vice President of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lutfi Haziri, told Radio Free Europe that during the party convention held on July 20, an agreement was reached for this entity to cooperate with the party of the incumbent Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, on the formation of institutions.
He emphasized that despite the obvious differences within the LDK, it is now faced with an offer from the first winning party of the elections, the Vetëvendosje Movement, for cooperation.
The principles that LDK has expressed as preconditions for a possible agreement with LVV are: agreement for all (institutions; Assembly, Government, Presidency) or none; state agenda, sectoral policies, government programs, the country's interest, and the sharing of responsibilities.
"These three principles unite us as a Parliamentary Group. The [LDK] Assembly has requested that this right be exercised to the end. How this request will be concluded is now a matter of negotiations [with the LVV]," Haziri emphasizes.
He adds that since the first formal talks, held between Kurti, President Lumir Abdixhiku and former President Vjosa Osmani on July 10, LVV has been informed of the principles on which the LDK sees a possible agreement.

According to him, it is now up to LVV, in future talks, to show whether it respects and agrees with these principles.
Haziri says that if reconciliation is reached, the unity of the LDK parliamentary group can be ensured through internal cooperation.
"These are not simple issues, but if there is political will and readiness [from LVV], then LDK will conclude all principled issues within 24 hours. We [in LDK] are not divided by anything, while the division of responsibilities is the last resort," Haziri emphasizes.
He expressed confidence in the political maturity of the LDK Parliamentary Group, for unity around the decisions of the party leader.
LDK's talks with LVV on a possible agreement were suspended on July 15, due to the request of some LDK officials for the dismissal of chairman Lumir Abdixhiku, following dissatisfaction with the election results.
Abdixhiku survived the motion for dismissal, but the differences and disagreements within the LDK, which were revealed through the vote for and against him, remain clear, according to senior LDK officials, as well as experts on political developments in Kosovo.
Creating unity in the LDK around a joint decision of its 18 MPs regarding a possible agreement with the LVV remains a challenge. Among them are people who voted for Abdixhiku's removal as party leader.

But a possible agreement between LVV and LDK still does not appear on the horizon, although there is less than a week left until Kosovo's constitutive session, scheduled for August 6.
With the constitution of the Assembly, the deadlines for the formation of the new Government of Kosovo, as well as the election of the president, begin to run. For the latter, the deputies of the new legislature will have 60 days from the date of the constitution of the Assembly to vote for the new head of state.
