Acting President Albulena Haxhiu has called for political parties to start talking about names for presidential candidacies.
After meeting with leaders of political parties who responded to the invitation for a meeting, Haxhiu expressed regret that the opposition parties refused the meeting.
She said that after the Democratic League's stance of accepting a consensual president, "the time has come to start talking about names for a consensual candidate, who does not belong to any political party."
Commenting on the opposition's request to first establish the Assembly and then discuss the president's government, Haxhiu said that "after all these months, we do not need to speculate on what the lack of agreement will bring."
"We have seen it several times. We know where the lack of dialogue or the refusal of meetings leads us. I have heard the positions of the parties present. All of them were that we should contribute maximally to the issue of the president's agreement and that early elections should definitely be avoided. I do not expect the parties to agree on everything. I expect them to be ready to talk about what is necessary for the functioning of the state. If we cannot agree today, we have no guarantee that a new pair of elections will make us agree tomorrow," Haxhiu said at a press conference.

She further said that Vetëvendosje has the votes for the Speaker of Parliament and the Government, but according to her, the priority is the president to avoid new elections.
"Therefore, the issue that we must address seriously is the one that keeps the country's institutional perspective blocked - namely the issue of the president. Kurti emphasized that he has the votes for the speaker of parliament and the government. And the issue is the agreement on the president. It may be a third-order issue - the constitution, the government and the president - but it is a priority because we can do both and not have an agreement on the president and the country will go to early and unnecessary elections", said Haxhiu "I am convinced that citizens want the parties to sit down and not to refuse meetings and present demands in accordance with their political power or in opposition to the will of the people, but to sit down and talk about the president's issues".
