Acting President Albulena Haxhiu has refused to call the dismissal of the head of the Mission to the Vatican, Vehbi Miftari, a dismissal. She announced that the procedures for his removal began in 2025.
Haxhiu said that he has received a large number of cases from former President Vjosa Osmani and has continued with the procedures where everything was in order.
"I wouldn't call it a dismissal. Every return from a diplomatic mission is not a dismissal. In diplomacy, there are appointments, returns and rotations and there is a need for the foreign service to function according to the law and the needs of the state. As for Mr. Miftari, the procedure for his release began in 2025. I inherited a large number of cases in relation to these issues. I inherited them from President Osmani and where everything was in order in relation to the procedures, I will continue them. There have been 8 appointments, three releases and two reorganizations of consular missions," she said at a press conference on Thursday, after setting the date for the next elections.
