The Speaker of the Parliament, Albulena Haxhiu, has forwarded to President Justina Shiroka-Pula for enactment the amendments to the Law on Specialized Chambers, which were approved in the Parliament on October 6.

"Yes, the Speaker of the Parliament, Ms. Albulena Haxhiu, has signed and forwarded to the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Ms. Justina Shiroka-Pula, for promulgation, Law No. 11/L-001 amending and supplementing Law No. 05/L-053 on the Specialist Chambers and the Specialist Prosecutor's Office," Haxhiu's office said in a response to KOHĖN.

President Shiroka-Pula now has eight days to decree the law.

KOHA has also sent questions to the Presidency, asking whether the law will be treated with urgency, as the Parliament did. As soon as there is a response, the article will be updated.

With the changes made to the law, the maximum sentence from the Specialist Chamber is limited to 15 years in prison, appeals to the Supreme Court of Kosovo against the Specialist Chamber's decisions will be allowed, sentences can be served in Kosovo instead of necessarily being served abroad, and the President of Kosovo will have the opportunity to grant amnesty to persons convicted by the Specialist Chambers.
