The joint border crossing between Kosovo and North Macedonia was inaugurated on Saturday.

Border crossings between countries will now be done with only one stop and one check at the entrance to each country.

The new regime will be implemented according to the "entry-entry" model and will be implemented at the Hani i Elezit/Bllacë and Glloboqicë/Jazhincë border points, while police officers will work in a shared facility. Entry data will be exchanged in real time through a shared technological system.

Interior Minister Xhelal Sveçla said that this will save time for citizens of both countries.

Prime Minister Albin Kurti has emphasized that facilitating border traffic will strengthen cooperation in many areas between Kosovo and North Macedonia.

"From now on, citizens will only be checked upon entry into the host country and data will be exchanged in real time through a common technological system... Citizens' expectations will finally be reduced and this will contribute to economic growth, trade exchange and connections between our citizens," he said.

And, Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski has emphasized that the common border will be a bridge connecting the countries.

"For citizens, this means more time for family, for work, for life. Today, here, we show in the best way that the border should not be a wall. The border can and should be our common bridge. A bridge that connects people, ideas, opportunities. A bridge through which we talk about trust, cooperation, economic exchange, development of culture and tourism."
