18 feeding points are opened for stray dogs in "dangerous areas"

The Mayor of Pristina, Përparim Rama, has announced that 18 new feeding points for stray dogs have been opened in the capital and their total has reached 23. Rama said that the decision to open feeding points in different areas of Prishtina was made in based on studies, which, according to him, have shown that they stop attacks on people.

"Here we are at one of the 18 new points that will serve as feeding points for stray dogs. In total there are 23 feeding points for stray dogs. The reason for the immediate intervention was to reassure the citizens. Based on studies, where there are feeding points, there is no attack on humans. We continue to analyze the situation and improve the situation. We have declared a state of emergency in relation to stray dogs in the Assembly, to make quick decisions. We also have the Regulation that forces all dog owners to register them. Any dog that is owned must be registered so that the owner can be held responsible if they let the dog loose after a while. The biggest problem is that the dogs are kept unsterilized in private homes and then released, and they have the ability to breed," said Rama at the opening of one of the feeding points for stray dogs on the campus of the University of Pristina on Friday.

Rama called for other municipalities, as well as the central level, to deal with this problem.

"Because only Prishtina deals with this problem, we then have a problem with the dogs that are coming from other municipalities. All municipalities must deal with this problem, as well as the central level", said Rama.

The first of Pristina added that 10 hectares of land have been allocated for the treatment of animals, with a focus on stray dogs.

Where the new feeding point for stray dogs is located on the UP campus, several cases of attacks on citizens have been reported.
