Grenell reacts to Von der Leyen: You were silent when your Hague court arrested Hashim Thaçi

US Special Envoy for Kosovo, Richard Grenell, and former President Hashim Thaçi

The US President's envoy for special missions around the world, Richard Grenell, has reacted to the post by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on the "X" platform about her visit to Kosovo and meeting with President Vjosa Osmani and acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti.

Grenell said that Von der Leyen remained silent when former President Hashim Thaçi was arrested.

"Your Hague Tribunal has held President Thaçi for 5 years. How can you advise any country on justice? You stood by while Jack Smith arrested a sitting president, just because he was on his way to meet Donald Trump to create a peace deal that included dismantling Jack Smith/the Tribunal's work. It is shameful how the media has ignored this political prosecution," Grenell wrote in his post.

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, stayed in Kosovo today and after meeting with Kurti and Osmani, she requested to continue with the building of institutions and the finalization of the necessary steps to benefit from the Growth Plan.

"We remain committed to a future where all six Western Balkan partners are part of our Union. For this, it is important that Kosovo continues to build strong institutions, reduce tensions in the country. Also, Kosovo must finalize the necessary steps to benefit from the Growth Plan," von der Leyen wrote in X.
