The Collective for Feminist Thought and Action has held a symbolic action in front of the Assembly of Kosovo on Friday, with the request for the legalization of self-defense spray.
The collective has requested through this action not to further criminalize women's self-defense, saying that the state is failing to provide security for them.
"Daily reports of cases of sexual violence are showing us that the safety of girls and women continues to be neglected by state institutions, leaving women and girls unprotected and easily vulnerable in every space. Sexual assaults, rapes, harassment are the everyday life of women and girls in Kosovo. So, for the most part, every day is a struggle. Every day they live in anxiety and fear, without many possibilities of protection. Since the state is failing to provide security, then we are forced to protect ourselves, with all the means at our disposal. And this, we will not continue to allow the state to deny us. We demand that the use of irritant spray be decriminalized for self-defense use. We will not stop seeking safety for every girl and woman who lives in fear today. Until then, when we are all free and safe!", said the Collective.
