The Special Court shares footage from the prison where former KLA leaders are being held

Special Court

The Special Court has published footage from the detention center in The Hague, where former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi, are being held.

In its announcement in “X”, the Special Court announced that defendants held in pre-trial detention or during trial are placed in the Detention Center in The Hague, where they have access to fresh air and physical activity, opportunities for socialization, visits and participation in religious services.

"...they have access to Albanian television, they have the right to receive several phone calls a week," Angela Griep, spokesperson for the Specialist Chambers, is heard saying in the video.

According to the announcement, the detention measure is applied only when deemed necessary to prevent significant risks, such as the possibility that the accused will attempt to intimidate or influence witnesses.

The Court has also emphasized that every two months the judges of the Specialist Chambers review the continuation of detention, to assess whether this measure still remains necessary and reasonable.
