Carnegie Europe expert Iliriana Gjoni has stated that Montenegro could increase its chances of joining the European Union if the ratification process in countries like France is also linked to Iceland.

"Or with a referendum. And the idea is to increase Montenegro's chances, perhaps the referendum question would include Iceland and Montenegro, so that the chances would be higher," Gjoni declared.
According to her, although there are suspicions in the European Union about pro-Russian elements within the Montenegrin government, the fact that a kind of political consensus is being maintained is being viewed positively in Brussels.
"In the EU, there is a kind of suspicion about the pro-Russian elements within the Government, starting with the President of the Parliament, Andrija Mandic, but the fact that a kind of consensus is being achieved is seen positively," Gjoni added.
Gjoni also emphasized that even a portion of Montenegrin citizens who identify as Serbs continue to support EU membership and see their future within the European Union.
