The exact number of individuals and their identities will be confirmed only after the completion of the relevant forensic analyses," the announcement states.
Excavations resumed at this location after being interrupted in December last year due to weather.
"During the activities carried out in December last year, appraisal excavations were carried out only in one sector or area of the area of interest, during which the mortal remains of two individuals were exhumed, and several bone fragments were found. Due to weather conditions and several operational factors, as well as taking into account the large area that requires verification and review of additional information, the works at this location were temporarily suspended," the Government Commission for Missing Persons further states in its announcement.
In December last year, during a three-day excavation in Pržin, Rahovec, the remains of two people suspected of having disappeared from the 1998-1999 war were found. At this location, where teams from the Hague Tribunal and UNMIK had previously conducted searches, there were suspicions that the remains of eight victims were located.
During 2025, excavations were carried out at 33 locations and the remains of 22 individuals were found. The process is expected to continue in 2026.
From the last war in Kosovo (1998-1999), 1,577 people are still missing.
