Acting Minister of Justice, Donika Gërvalla, has demanded that Serbia open its archives and hand over all persons forcibly disappeared during the war in Kosovo, emphasizing that clarifying their fate remains Belgrade's obligation and responsibility.
She made the statements during a visit to the village of Kalludër e Vogël in Zubin-Potok, where excavations are underway as it is suspected that there are mortal remains belonging to 23 intellectuals from Mitrovica, forcibly disappeared by Serbian forces during the war.
Gërvalla said that professional teams are doing their work and that official results should be awaited before drawing conclusions.
"Everything is being done professionally here. All units involved in the work are doing their job and we hope to have the most accurate and concrete results soon, in order to at least inform the families of those found here and enable them to finally bury them. This is not the time for speculation or big noise. Let's let the professionals do their job," she said.
According to Gërvalla, the fact that the excavations have yielded results is a positive development, but he stressed that efforts must continue until the fate of all the missing is revealed.
"It is good news that the excavation has yielded results and that the institutions are committed to finding the mass graves, but also to increasing pressure on Serbia: first to open the archives and second to hand over all the missing. Above all, we must ensure that such things never happen again in our country," declared the acting minister.
