The Director of Emergencies and Security in the Municipality of Pristina, Lulzim Fushtica, has announced that from September, high schools in the capital are expected to have "security officers".
On the show "60 Minutes" on KTV, Fushtica said that these Kosovo Police officers are intended to stay in schools all day.
"We are in discussions with the Kosovo Police for the implementation of the school officer program from September to increase school safety. We will share the program with other municipalities. All high schools will have police security officers," he said, adding that this decision was made after a security assessment.
Fushtica said that the Kosovo Police is also aiming to address traffic safety issues - adding that in the first 6 months of this year, more than 60 tickets for traffic violations have been issued.
Fushtica was recently elected head of the Security and Emergencies Collegium, which was formed within the Association of Municipalities. He said that this collegium was formed because there were lacks of standard procedures for inter-municipal cooperation. “Floods, fires, natural disasters know no borders,” he said.
According to Fushtica, this platform of security directors across municipalities aims to create a uniform and standardized approach in addressing common challenges. According to him, larger municipalities will help smaller ones in their challenges.
