Several Kosovo Security Force (KSF) vehicles mistakenly entered the territory of North Mitrovica on Thursday, where they stayed for several minutes, the head of the KSF's public information sector, Vëllazërim Qerimi, announced. The same version was previously given by the deputy director of the Kosovo Police for the northern region, Veton Elshani.
According to Serbian media reports and videos circulating on Telegram, KSF vehicles entered the main road of North Mitrovica in the morning hours.
Eyewitnesses told “KoSSev” that the vehicles stood there for about ten minutes. There were almost ten vehicles, including several Hummers and three to four trucks. Initially, citizens thought it was KFOR.
In a response to KOHA, Qerim stated that the convoy was moving from Istog to the KSF barracks in South Mitrovica.
"The Kosovo Security Force informs the public that today, 16.10.2025 at 10:30, during the movement of the KSF convoy from Istog to the KSF barracks in Mitrovica, KSF members with vehicles have confused the direction of movement," the head of the public information sector at the KSF told KOHO.

KFOR declares itself on the erroneous entry of the KSF into the north
The deputy director of the Kosovo Police for the north, Veton Elshani, earlier confirmed that the vehicles were KSF vehicles. He added that they spent about five minutes at a gas station, where the police saw them and asked them about the situation. According to Elshani, the KSF members replied that they had mistaken the location and thought they were in South Mitrovica.
Elshani also emphasized that the KSF members did not have weapons.
When asked by "KoSSev" how it is possible for the KSF to make such a mistake in determining the location, he replied that this is a "good question", but for the KSF.
The deployment of the KSF to the north of the country is possible only with the prior consent of the NATO peacekeeping mission in Kosovo, KFOR, based on the 2013 commitment by the Government of Kosovo to NATO. This commitment, given through a letter from former Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi to the then NATO Secretary General, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, remains in force today, despite changes in the KSF’s mandate.
KOHA has also sent questions to KFOR. As soon as there is a response, the article will be updated.
