However, the criminal prosecution of the suspects was impossible because the Code of Criminal Procedure does not allow trial in absentia, KTV reports.
However, this Code has been amended and passed through several parliamentary committees, and now trial in absentia has been made possible.
On Monday, they voted for it in the Commission for European Integration.
However, Bekim Blakaj, director of the Humanitarian Law Fund, does not agree with this change, since, according to him, the trial in absentia violates the defendants' rights to protection.

Meanwhile, this change proposal is supported by the prosecutor of the Special Prosecution, Drita Hajdari, who says that the trial in absentia is a necessity in a situation when most of the war criminals are outside Kosovo.
Hajdari clarifies that the trial in absentia takes place after all legal possibilities have been exhausted to ensure the physical presence of the defendant in the procedure.
