The deputy head of the International Monetary Fund, Sebastian Weber, has said that inflation has decreased in Kosovo this year, but he has concluded that the recovery has stalled after the blow given to the economy by the Russian aggression in Ukraine. The deputy governor of CBK, Dardan Fusha, said that this year Kosovo has recorded a decrease in public debt.
Inflation in Kosovo has decreased by two percent this year, said the deputy head of the International Monetary Fund, Sebastian Weber, at the table organized on Tuesday in Pristina for the IMF's Regional Economic Perspective for Europe.
He spoke about the consequences that the Russian aggression in Ukraine has left in Kosovo's economy, and concluded that the recovery has stalled.
"The recovery is still not big enough. So we have a year that is full of elections across the globe. We see that Kosovo is increasing in speed even though the convergence has not been fast in the past. There is a closing of the gap, but this could be doubled if Kosovo were to join the EU. The recovery as a whole has stalled and there is a gap," said Weber.
The Governor of the Central Bank of Kosovo, Ahmet Ismaili, has said that the IMF's findings are stable.
"We agree with these findings. This solid foundation is critical in maintaining a well-regulated sector. Our focus is on facilitating financial access. In addition, CBK, assisted by international partners, is undertaking reforms and improving the financial structure", declared Ismaili.
The deputy governor of CBK, Dardan Fusha, has said that this year Kosovo has recorded a decrease in public debt. He also emphasized the increase in the number of bank loans.
"Although we have had challenges in the banking financial system, we have seen that this year lending has increased by 13 percent. This has supported economic development. We are conducting financial supervision. For the first time, we are applying buffers against the banking cycle", said Fusha.
According to the analytical document of the IMF, which was presented at the table, this year it is not expected that there will be an increase in energy prices.
