Serbian political activist Miodrag Kapor stirred up tensions at a protest held in Novi Sad on Saturday by unfurling the Albanian national flag.
As soon as the crowd saw him, the pushing and insults began. Kapor was immediately forcibly removed from the crowd.
"He brought the Albanian flag here to make fun of us," said one of the protesters, according to the Serbian newspaper "Blic".
After the incident, Kapor said he gave a statement to the police. As he said, he also had a Croatian flag with him.
"I brought a flag of Albania and one of Croatia. To be clear, these flags are official symbols recognized by the Community Councils in Serbia. I brought them because the students said that these are the flags that can be brought to protests. As we have seen regularly, the Bosnian flag appears at protests. We brought these two flags to increase tolerance, so that we are all together in this fight," he said.
In Novi Sad, students protested again, continuing to demand justice for the deaths of 16 people last year when a train station shelter collapsed.
