The European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA) has decided to exclude the Kosovo Accreditation Agency (AKA).
The Kosovo Accreditation Agency became part of ENQA in 2014 as a full member for a period of 5 years. Last year, ENQA lowered the status of the Agency from a member with full rights to a member under review due to political interference in this institution.
This is after, in September 2017, the Minister of Education, Shyqiri Bytyqi, at the request of the Prime Minister, Ramush Haradinaj, dismissed the Agency's board and the acting director of this institution.
Because of this intervention, even the European Register for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (EQAR) expelled the Agency on the grounds that it has lost its autonomy.
The Kosovo Agency for Accreditation, months ago, was included in the assessment process at ENQA.

Exclusion of the Accreditation Agency from ENQA with major consequences
The President of ENQA, Christoph Grolimund, through a letter he sent to the Agency, explained the reasons for this decision of the ENQA board regarding the fate of AKA, a decision that was taken on September 19.
In the letter that "Koha Ditore" has, it is stated that the ENQA board has come to the conclusion that the general level of compliance with the Standards and guidelines for quality assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG) is not sufficient for improve the membership of the Agency at this stage.
