Elza Bajrami-Kastrati is sworn in as a member of the Kosovo Police Commission

Prosecutor Elza Bajrami-Kastrati was sworn in as a new member of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council (KPK) after the approval of the election commission's report, where she was declared the winner in the ranks of the basic prosecution offices.

Bajrami-Kastrati won the election at the general conference of prosecutors in November last year, but her certification was blocked last year by several members of the Council. The KPK's justification was that the process was not conducted in accordance with standards.

Bajrami-Kastrati then filed a lawsuit with the Basic Court in Pristina, seeking the annulment of the decision. On March 3, the Basic Court decided to annul the KPK's decision of December 1 and forced it to approve the report on the electoral process.

Donika Gërvalla, the Minister of Justice, has also reacted to this. In a post on Facebook, she said that with this, the reforms in the KPK are moving towards full implementation.

"Today, a new member of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council from the ranks of the basic prosecution offices was certified, bringing the Council to 6 out of the total 7 members that the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council should have. This step is a result of the legal reform changes, specifically Law No. 08/L-249 on amending and supplementing Law No. 06/L-056 on the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council, and part of the process of implementing the reform in the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council. The previous day, the Kosovo Assembly initiated procedures to elect the remaining non-prosecutor member, so that the whole thing is completed in accordance with the goals of the reform. This action further functionalizes the work in the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council. Undoubtedly, this is a positive development that shows that the reform is being implemented, with the aim of strengthening integrity, accountability and professionalism in the entire prosecutorial system," she wrote.
