For the 34th time, the constitutive session of the Kosovo Assembly has failed. The deadlock continues to remain on the issue of forming a committee for secret balloting to elect the speaker. The next session will be held on Saturday at 10:00.
Abdixhiku on the meeting with Limaj: Very friendly
The leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku, described Wednesday's meeting with the leader of Nisma, Fatmir Limaj, as "very friendly."
Abdixhiku spoke briefly after the end of the 34th attempt to constitute the Assembly.
"A very friendly meeting with Limaj. Nothing more than that," Abdixhiku said.
Limaj also spoke about the meeting earlier. He confirmed that he and Abdixhiku have "the same point of view in many areas."
Abrashi: The opposition is blocking the Parliament without a clear purpose
Vetevendosje Movement MP Artan Abrashi has said that the former opposition parties are blocking the constitution of the Parliament without a clear purpose.
According to him, MPs are violating the Constitution when they are not participating in the vote on the formation of the secret committee to elect the speaker of parliament.
"We express our deep disappointment for this deliberate and completely unconstitutional blockade by the opposition. Elections are a democratic process and when you do not win them, the minimum of political and human ethics is to accept and reflect on the result and continue the procedural flow for the formation of institutions. But this is not happening. Destructive political resentments, without any clear purpose, have been holding the Kosovo Assembly hostage for some time now," Abrashi said after the failure of the 34th to constitute the Assembly.
Haziri: The Ohrid Agreement, the biggest damage to this Government
Democratic League of Kosovo MP, Lutfi Haziri, has repeated the call for the formation of a transitional government, so that, according to him, with agreement between the parties, the current impasse can be resolved.
He told the media that the issue should only be resolved through political agreement, while saying that the current cabinet is exploiting both the government and the MP's seat.
Haziri said that in recent days "the government cabinet is spending more time in the offices of the Prosecutor's Office than in the offices of the Government."
"On behalf of the LDK Parliamentary Group, we confirm that at the 34th meeting it was confirmed that the political issue and the elections of bodies until the constitution cannot be resolved by procedures, but must be resolved by agreement. Even with MPs and ministers, the government in office cannot function. We are seeing that in recent days the government cabinet has been spending more time in the offices of the Prosecutor's Office than in the offices of the Government," said Haziri.
According to Haziri, the biggest damage to the Kurti Government remains the agreement between Kosovo and Serbia, agreed in Ohrid.
"...LDK's option remains for a transitional government with principles and agreement...", he added.
The 34th attempt fails.
On Thursday, the 34th attempt to constitute the Assembly failed.
The impasse continues to remain on the issue of forming a secret ballot committee for the election of the speaker of parliament.
There were 102 deputies in the hall. 51 deputies voted in favor of forming this commission, while one was against.
The next session will be held on Saturday at 10:30 AM.
Limaj had an "exhaustive conversation" with Abdixhiku: We have a common point of view in many areas
The Chairman of the Initiative, Fatmir Limaj, said that on Wednesday he met with the Chairman of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku.
He added that a number of topics were discussed at the meeting, but without providing details.
"We met, we had a very good meeting, we discussed all the topics. We had an exhaustive conversation and it was an extremely good meeting... In many directions we have a perspective on developments and it is important that meetings are taking place. We cannot solve the problems ourselves, but we express our willingness," Limaj said before the start of the constitutive session of the Assembly.
Haradinaj: Kurti is a fraud, he is holding Kosovo hostage
(Updated: 10:10) - The leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, has called the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, a fraud, saying that he is holding Kosovo hostage.
Haradinaj told the media on Thursday that citizens are paying the price "for trusting a fraudster," as he said that the institutional blockade must end.
"...The fraudster, unfortunately we are paying the price for trusting a fraudster. It is not a surprise to me. This situation must also end. The fraudster cannot mock a country without limits. He is holding Kosovo hostage and this does not make it go without limits. His meetings and tales are farce. A man is holding Kosovo hostage. I am not surprised. Let them remember once and for all," said Haradinaj.
AAK says they are awaiting the Constitutional Court's decision on secret voting
Alliance for the Future of Kosovo MP, Lahi Brahimaj, has stated that he does not expect any developments in today's constitutive session.
He told the media that they are awaiting the Constitutional Court's decision on the issue of secret voting.
"...We are waiting for the decision of the Constitutional Court. I don't believe there is any development," Brahimaj said briefly.
On May 12, the AAK submitted to the Constitutional Court the issue of forming a committee for secret voting in the constitutive session of the Assembly.
AAK had announced that they had also submitted "other decisions of the same nature" relating to the preliminary and subsequent hearings regarding this issue.
Qalaj: The impasse in the Assembly will be resolved if VV proposes another candidate
PDK MP Rashit Qalaj has said that the institutional deadlock in the Kosovo Assembly can be resolved if the party with the most seats proposes another candidate who is acceptable to the political spectrum.
"The problem of the Assembly can be solved at that moment, when the party that has won the most seats proposes someone else acceptable to other parties. We as PDK have given our proposals, PDK is doing a very good job, since it is avoiding a great evil that a candidate who is not acceptable, who does not represent unity, does not become the speaker of the parliament", he said shortly before the continuation of the 34th constitutive session.
