Another 42 people are added to the list of war veterans

Since December last year, 42 people have been added to the list of war veteran pension beneficiaries.

The Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare told Time that since last year, only 4 people have had their pensions cut by court decisions.

The numbers of veterans continue to grow, despite the fact that a series of lawsuits have been opened for these lists.

For legalization of false content and falsification of documents, related to the cases of illegal benefit of veteran status, the Basic Prosecutor's Office of Prishtina, Gjilan, Peja and that of Ferizaj are conducting investigations, where they have also filed indictments.

Whereas, in the Basic Prosecutor's Office of Prizren, even though they have received more than 170 criminal reports, no indictment has been filed for any case so far.

"During 2019, the Kosovo police received 171 criminal reports against 171 persons due to the offense: falsification of documents from Article 398 and the criminal offense of legalizing false content from Article 403 of the Criminal Code of Kosovo, 04/L-082, which are registered in the PP register in the General Department. Likewise, 2 other accepted cases are registered in the PPN/I register in the Department of Serious Crimes. All these cases, with the exception of one case for which investigations have been discontinued, are ongoing. From the date of broad acceptance today, no indictment has been filed for such cases", says the response of the Prosecution.

For misuse of the official position by the Governmental Commission for the Verification of Veteran Status, the Basic Court in Pristina is trying 12 people, but according to Ehat Miftaraj from IKD, the process is dragging on.

"If we take as a basis the deadlines for which this case had to be carried out, then we are too late. On the other hand, a good practice is at the Prosecutor's Office and the Basic Court in Peja, which in some way seem to have started to show the first successes in dealing with these cases very efficiently and having also sentencing judgments in these cases ", said Miftari.

According to the Special Prosecutor's Office of Kosovo, from illegal payments to war veterans, the budget of Kosovo has been damaged for about 68 million euros.
