protest

The draft law, initiated by the PDK, provides for changes to the jurisdiction of the Specialist Chambers, including the possibility for cases deemed outside their jurisdiction to be processed in Kosovo. It also provides for the possibility of appeal to the Supreme Court of Kosovo, limiting the maximum sentence to 15 years, and serving sentences in Kosovo.

One of the proposed changes is the possibility for persons convicted by the Specialist Chambers to be subject to presidential pardon.

The review of the draft law is taking place at a time when the Assembly is approaching the end of the constitutional deadline for electing the president.

The Constitutional Court has determined that the 60-day deadline for electing a president began on August 8, after the constitution of the Assembly, and ends on October 6. If the president is not elected by then, the Assembly is dissolved and the country goes to new parliamentary elections.
