The Kosovo Judicial Council (KJC) has failed to elect a new deputy chairperson.

Judge Artan Abazi, who was the only candidate for this position, did not receive enough votes from the members of the Council.

Chairman Rrustem Thaqi declared the selection process a failure and said that a new competition would be reopened.

"For the candidate Artan Abazi, 5 voted, and 6 voted against. Since there is one candidate, the competition for the position of chairman is repeated," said Thaqi.

Before the election process failed, candidate Artan Abazi said in his speech that if he is entrusted with this task, he will exercise it with full dedication, in strengthening the independence of the judicial system.

"The position of the Deputy Chairperson is a supporting position to the Chairperson of the Council and, at the same time, a cooperative position with all other members of the Council. But I think that our success lies precisely in institutional unity, in collegiality and in the shared responsibility for the realization of the objectives of the Kosovo Judicial Council. If I am entrusted with this task, for which I have applied, I will exercise it with full dedication and by cooperating closely with each of you, in order to strengthen the independence, integrity and efficiency of the judicial system of the Republic of Kosovo", said Abazi.
