The Kaçanik - Shtërpcë - Brezovicë road is being degraded, the citizens ask the MI to continue the works

Shtërpce, February 22 - For more than two years, the 15-kilometer Kaçanik-Shtërpcë-Brezovice regional road continues to degrade.

The axis of this 7-kilometer road that starts from the village of Bajnicë to Drekoc continues to be in the worst condition.

For the realization of this project, the Ministry of Infrastructure had allocated about one million and 300 thousand euros, but the works have been stalled until now.

In addition to the official demands, the residents have also organized protests several times, blocking the regional road that leads to the ski resort.

Meanwhile, the reason for the delay of this project, there were constant reactions from the municipality of Shtërpce itself, until the executive several times addressed to the Ministry of Infrastructure with official letters for the realization of the project, but so far such a thing has not happened.

This issue has become the subject of debates in the Municipal Assembly of Shtërpce, while the members of the assembly are constantly accusing the Ministry of Infrastructure of negligence.

Rifat Rustemi, councilor in the KK of Shtërpce from the ranks of the Social Democratic Initiative, has said that every day the regional road is being degraded, so the ski tourist center is also losing its visitors.

"In the last three sessions of the Assembly, we once again asked to officially address the Ministry of Infrastructure for the regulation of this road axis, which has degraded quite a lot and is making it difficult for citizens and vehicles to circulate. So, the cause of this situation is that vehicles are being damaged in traffic and as a result of this, visitors are also leaving the ski center in Brezovica because it is a road that has an extraordinary traffic of tourists", criticized Rrustemi.

According to him, the municipality should also commit more to the finalization of these road projects while they are in the general interest. "Works on these roads have been dragging on since 2018 without any concrete reason, on the other hand, visitors to the skiing center are complaining that the road is degraded. The works are also being delayed in other projects which are being realized by the Ministry of Infrastructure. We ask once again from the Ministry of Infrastructure to continue the work on this very important project for the citizens of the country", he added.

On the other hand, Garip Sahiti, the deputy chairman of the Municipal Assembly of Shtërpce, has said that after the constant demands of the Municipality, the Ministry of Infrastructure is justifying that there are no budget funds for the continuation of the works on this road. "The Ministry is justifying that there are no budget funds for the continuation of the project since the governments and ministers have changed and the proper planning has not been done, while for us as a municipality this is very worrying because the vehicles of our citizens are being damaged and at the same time the cause due to the lack of infrastructure, the number of visitors to the ski resort has decreased. This issue has been debated several times in the KK, but the ministry is not committing to continue the works", said Sahiti.

According to him, the state of the regional road has degraded a lot, while it is the direct competence of the Ministry of Infrastructure for asphalting and maintenance.

"We as a municipality come to the aid of the citizens and you are making continuous efforts, even in the Municipal Assembly we have debated this issue to send an official letter to the MI. Therefore, I believe that we will submit requests to the ministry again for the continuation of the project because the citizens are also complaining and we are accepting concerns from them every day, there have even been protests blocking the road", added Sahiti.

Meanwhile, Bektesh Bajrami, a resident of the village of Brod, said that they submitted requests and complaints to all local and central institutions, but so far no one is committed to paving the regional road.

"The damage to the road started 2 years ago and it continues to be damaged even more during the last months. Potholes on the roads are damaging vehicles, therefore it is very worrying to have such obstacles and degradations on regional roads. As residents, we have also held protests, but still there has been no reflection from the ministry, meanwhile we will continue in the future if our demands are not reflected", said Bajrami.
