Regarding the recent scandals with meat products, the chairman of the Commission for Human Rights and Gender Equality, Duda Bale, at the table regarding the issue of meat importation and processing, said that they are not against meat producers and processors, but according to her there should not be spoiled meat and scandals in the market as are happening recently.
According to her, consumers are encountering low-quality meat products. She is convinced that there are irregularities in the meat market.
The chief executive officer of AUV, Valdet Gjinovci, has said that this institution destroyed spoiled meat originating from Belgium produced in 2004 and also in 2017, meat from Belgium was seized and destroyed.
"We have not allowed this type of old meat to enter Kosovo, the case has been transparent and has been continuously reported. Belgian authorities have recently taken measures in Belgium against the rumored company", said Gjinovci, KP reports.
He added that in 2017, over 500 tons of food products were destroyed.
"It is not true that we are not working on the findings of spoiled meat. Therefore, spoiled meat from Belgium was not sold in Kosovo, because we destroyed it at the moment of entry into Kosovo", said Gjinovci.
He has guaranteed that there is no import of spoiled meat in legal ways.
The head of the inspection in the municipality of Podujeva, Florije Besholli, has said that for any irregularities they have made checks on five butchers in Podujeva and economic operators in this municipality, but they have not encountered any irregularities.
Likewise, officials of the municipality of Prizren have said that they are under supervision of butchers and economic operators, where they say that they have not encountered spoiled meat from Belgium. However, they said that they confiscated and disposed of a quantity of spoiled meat in Elkos.
In this debate, the target was the economic operator Elkos, as well as the Prizren market for low-quality products.
Fatos Islami from Elkos said that they had a problem with meat in Prizren, but that meat was in the process of disposal.
"We have notified the authorities that we have meat without a deadline and have invited for disposal. It was not for sale of meat. It has become unfair to us", emphasized Islami.
Meanwhile, the inspector from the municipality of Prizren, Islam Thaçi, said that there was no request for destruction from Elkos, and that meat was spoiled, and according to him, this operator is guilty.
Lavdim Sadiku from Apetit Group has said that they are worried about the situation created in the meat market. He said that there have been no problems in his company, because they respect all the rules and standards.
Even the deputy Lirie Kajtazi has said that the state of the meat market is worrying and, according to her, consumers come across products disguised as durability dates.
Deputy Luljeta Veseaj - Gutaj, has asked the head of the AUV to tell about the names of meat processors and producers and economic operators whose meat goods have been confiscated and destroyed.
The other MP, Albulena Balaj, asked consumers to boycott Elkos, as, as she said, "there are many irregularities in this economic operator with meat products". However, Fatos Islami from Elkos intervened for this, where he had a verbal clash with MP Balaj.
There were also meat processors, who said that a special war is being waged to destroy meat producers and processors. Some of the meat processors claimed that their image has fallen, and the sale of meat has also decreased.
