The United Kingdom has reacted after the decree of the acting president, Albulena Haxhiu, through which seven Serbian prosecutors, who had resigned at the end of 2022, were dismissed from their duties.
Haxhiu's decision was made a day after the Prosecutorial Council rejected their request to withdraw their resignations from almost four years ago.
In response, the United Kingdom has said it is concerned by this development and has called for the integration of Kosovo's multi-ethnic population into the justice system.
"We have welcomed the continued response of the relevant professional bodies, which have recognized the importance of maintaining the trust of all communities in Kosovo in the justice system. Therefore, we are concerned about the developments of this week. We call for the integration of Kosovo's multi-ethnic population into the justice system, with the aim of strengthening public trust in the institutions of the rule of law in Kosovo," the response states.
The European Union has also expressed concern over the decision of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council to accept the resignation of the Serbian personnel, as well as the decree of this decision by the acting president of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu. The EU has called these decisions inconsistent with the law.

The judges who resigned at the same time have also requested to return to their jobs, but the Kosovo Judicial Council has not yet made a decision on them.
The resignations at the end of 2022 followed the dismissal of the police commander in the north, who had refused to implement a government decision banning the circulation of vehicles with illegal Serbian license plates. At that time, the mayors of four northern municipalities and members of the administration also resigned.
