Belgium will take over the Presidency of the EU, Kurti reminds him of Kosovo's application

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has reminded Belgium, which will take over the Presidency of the European Union from January, that Kosovo has been waiting to receive the status of a candidate country for EU membership since December 15 of last year.

This discussion took place in the meeting that Prime Minister Albin Kurti had on Friday with the Foreign Minister of Belgium, Hadja Lahbib.

According to the communiqué from the Office of the Prime Minister, Kurti thanked Belgium for the support it has given to Kosovo, while he said that the opening of the Embassy of Belgium in Kosovo is a manifestation of "excellent bilateral relations, the potential and mutual will to deepen relations".

"Since we are on the verge of the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, we also discussed the process of the integration of the Western Balkans into the European Union, namely the journey of the Republic of Kosovo in that direction. Kosovo submitted its application for membership on December 15 of last year, and is waiting to receive the status of a candidate country", the communiqué states.

The meeting also discussed the security situation in the region and Kosovo-Serbia relations, two months after the terrorist attack in Banjska i Zveçani.
