The EU promises support for Kosovo in energy efficiency

EU officials have promised support for Kosovo in the efficient energy sector. At the inauguration ceremony of the thermal insulation, heating and LED lighting project at the "Shaban Shala" School in Podujevë, which was invested by the energy efficiency fund, a call was made once again to save energy.

Annacarin Palton, deputy head of the EU office in Kosovo, said that investing in efficient energy remains a priority for the EU.

"I want to thank everyone who is participating in the completion of this project that we have invested in and which enables the improvement of students' lives. Energy efficiency is a priority and for this we support Kosovo. This investment does not only affect those who are invested directly, but also affects decarbonization and has benefits for all people living in Kosovo", Annacarin Palton emphasized.

"I am happy that, together with the EU and the Kosovo Fund for Efficient Energy, we are enabling investments in this project, which includes investments in schools and public buildings. The school now meets the conditions for learning and the investment contributes to the quality of learning. Such projects contribute to the creation of jobs and energy saving, and we will continue to work with the Government, even now that the Energy Strategy has been approved, which will contribute to the implementation of the green agenda", she stated.

Meanwhile, the mayor of Podujeva Municipality, Shpejtim Bulliqi, said that the investment in the School

"Shaban Shala" is not the only institution that has benefited from the energy efficiency fund.

"This is in the group of four schools that have won and a road that has been invested in energy efficiency. All of these amount to approximately 800 thousand euros, which are extremely welcome for us and especially for these students and teachers, who from now on will have a warmer facility and which meets the best conditions for success and the development of the learning process", he said.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Economic Development, Artane Rizvanolli, said that the realization of this project has also influenced the creation of a better environment for the students and teachers of this school.

"Today we inaugurated the investment measures in energy efficiency that have been made in this school and this is only one of the publicly owned facilities, where investments in efficiency have been made in cooperation with the municipality and with funding from the European Union, the World Bank and the Government of Kosovo . We saw closely the investments that were made in the external thermal insulation, the replacement of windows, the installation of the new boiler, which moreover was produced in Kosovo", Rizvanolli emphasized. "And most importantly of all, we saw that in addition to the savings in terms of energy needs and energy costs, the children here and the staff say that now the school is much warmer and much more comfortable during the winter months. And this is more important and this is what makes us happy, to see the direct results of everyone's joint work".

Meanwhile, the director of the Kosovo Fund for Energy Efficiency, Ahmet Ismajli, said that the investment in this school will save up to 74 percent of energy.
