Residents of Fushë-Kosovo are in trouble due to waste, delays are justified by the increased flow of consumption

Residents of several neighborhoods in Fushë-Kosovo continue to face severe winds caused by the lack of waste collection. Residents complain that this situation is very difficult for them. The company that was engaged by the Municipality, in the absence of the capacities of the regional company "Pastrimi", "Selmans Network", promises to solve this problem in the coming days.

Overfilled containers and waste outside collection points still exist in some neighborhoods of Fushë-Kosovo Polje.

Even though a state of emergency was declared for waste about two months ago in this municipality, the situation in some neighborhoods continues to be the same.

On Hajrullah Zajmi, Arbëria, Enver Maloku streets and other neighborhoods, the situation, according to residents, is worrying.

Qëndresa Kastrati Hoxha, a resident of "Selim Grajqevci" street, says they are troubled by the stench of waste, especially during hot days.

"They haven't come to collect the garbage for two weeks. The most irresponsible municipality, the most unfair to us citizens. The garbage is terrible, we can't even let the children out, nor open the windows, the wind is so strong. It's too much, especially now that the heat is taking its toll. At least in the evening I would like to open the windows, we can't because the smell is so bad. The situation is very bad," said Hoxha.

According to her, they have also addressed requests to the municipality, but without a solution.

Another resident, Mehmet Gjeli, says that he goes to the village for six months during the summer, just because of these problems.  

"Not only in our neighborhood, but in general. I'm from the village, I've been here for six months, in the village for six. Now I'm there, but I came to fulfill some obligations. Here with the garbage there's nowhere to stay, nowhere to go. But how are they not hindering us? Not only here, but also in the village. For two months they don't come to collect it. What it is, I don't know. We fulfill our obligations regularly," said Gjeli.

For this municipality, the company "Pastrimi" is responsible for waste management, but the Municipality of Fushë Kosovë, due to lack of capacity, has also engaged the private company "Selmans Network".

This company says they will increase their capacities in order to solve this problem.

"We are also operating all the time, but since August there has been a doubling of consumption. While these capacities that they have predicted, it seems that they have not been sufficient. They called us today, to add another truck. We will send two additional trucks from tomorrow, so does this mean that this is beyond the contract, beyond the agreement?" said Betim Selmanaj from "Selmans Network".

Selmanaj said that starting next week, plans are underway to separate the operational areas and transfer complete responsibilities for some areas to the company "Selmans Network".

KOHA has also asked the Municipality of Fushë-Kosovo, namely the Directorate of Public Services, about this problem, but there was no response on Sunday.
