Croatian authorities have released Kosovo citizen Bajram Bajram, who was detained in Croatia on the basis of an international arrest warrant issued by Serbia, in connection with allegations of war crimes, the Ministry of Justice announced on Tuesday.
The ministry said that the release came after the engagement of Kosovo institutions and cooperation with the competent Croatian authorities.
According to the ministry, Bajrami was detained on suspicion of committing war crimes as a member of the Kosovo Liberation Army.
"Minister of Justice, Donika Gërvalla, on August 14 sent an official letter to her Croatian counterpart, Damir Habijan, demanding the immediate release of Bajram and expressing concern about Serbia's use of arrest warrants against Kosovo citizens," the announcement states.
The case was also discussed during a telephone conversation between Gërvalla and Habijan, where, according to the Ministry of Justice, it was emphasized that for the alleged crimes committed in the territory of Kosovo, the competence belongs to the Kosovo justice institutions.
The Ministry of Justice has described Bajram's release as proof that the citizens of Kosovo will not be left alone in the face of Serbia's efforts to pursue and detain them through international mechanisms.
Bajrami was arrested last month at the Karasovici border crossing.
