In Thursday's session, the former deputy general commander of the KLA, Sokol Bashota, finished his testimony. During the session, there were again remarks by the lawyers regarding the judges' questions. This is not the first time that the defense of the accused has complained about the bias of the judges. In a joint letter a few days ago, this displeasure towards the judicial body was expressed. Suggestive questions have also been mentioned as a problem. After Bashota, the 110th witness testified in this process. And, Special announced that the process is expected to resume on January 13, 2025
Even in Thursday's Special session, the defense of the former leaders of the General Staff of the KLA complained about the bias of the judges.
Jakup Krasniqi's lawyer, Venkateswari Alagendra, considered judge Guenawl Mettraux's questions about the witness Sokol Bashota suggestive.
The reaction of lawyer Alagendra was made when the former deputy general commander of the KLA was being asked about an interview of Azem Syla in October 1999.
In that interview, Syla mentioned 9 names of members of the General Staff and "another friend".
Alagendra said that during the interrogation by Mettraux, he tried to present that the "other person" was Krasniqi.
"A question was asked by judge Metraux that was very suggestive, that was very orienting and the question was about the 'other colleague' or 'the other friend', who was this", Alagendra said.
Krasniqi's lawyer asked Bashota if it is possible that the "other person" mentioned in Syla's interview was Nait Hasani.
"Do you agree with me that the fact that Nait Hasan was in the hands of the Serbs, arrested, in prison, was a strong reason why his name was not given publicly and was not explicitly mentioned by Azem Syla in that interview?", she asked.
Bashota did not deny it as a possibility.
"It is likely. But, as long as it is Azem Syla's interview, I cannot comment on the purpose. If he had this goal, then for me it is a noble goal", he said.
In fact, this is not the first time that the defense of the accused has complained about the bias of the judges.
In a joint letter a few days ago, this displeasure towards the judicial body was expressed. Suggestive questions have also been mentioned as a problem.
Meanwhile, Bashota has said that in 1997 he did not consider Rexhep Selim part of the General Staff.
"If it is accepted that Rexhep Selimi, if it is accepted or conceived by this court, was accepted as a member of the General Staff with the word of Xheladin Gashi - the Elder, when he went to Albania, then I and Rexhep Selimi were in different places during that period of the war, but I did not consider him a member of the General Staff, as long as he was not chosen by a forum or group", he said.
After Bashota finished his testimony, a protected witness took his place.
His testimony was given in closed session.
Prosecutor Cezary Mihailzcuk said in the summary read that the witness was stopped and beaten by members of the KLA and that as a result he also heard the screams of other people who, according to him, were mistreated.
After the conclusion of the testimony of the 110th witness in the judicial process against Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selim and Jakup Krasniqi, the trial is expected to resume on January 13, 2025.
