The Ombudsman has announced that investigations have been launched into allegations that police mistreated those arrested during the Vidovdan celebration in Gazimestan that was held on June 28.
According to the announcement, hThe investigations were initiated with the aim of verifying the facts and circumstances of the case, as well as to assess whether constitutional, legal and international standards for the protection of fundamental human rights and freedoms were respected during the treatment of the arrested persons.
According to this institution, there have been complaints from several citizens, arrested by the Kosovo Police, that they were exposed to physical and psychological violence during their transportation to the police station, also stating that other rights guaranteed by the Constitution and laws in force have been violated against them.
"The Ombudsman Institution has opened investigations regarding the published allegations and complaints received from several citizens, arrested by the Kosovo Police, that they were exposed to physical and psychological violence during their transportation to the police station, as well as that other rights guaranteed by the Constitution and the laws in force were violated against them," the announcement states.
As part of the investigations, the Ombudsman Institution has announced that it will take all necessary actions, including collecting relevant information and documentation from the competent authorities, in accordance with the constitutional and legal mandate of the Institution.
