The injured party's lawyer, Gent Gjini, said that the evidence shows that Plesković was a member of the Red Berets (Serbian Special Operations Unit), therefore the sentence against him should be maximum.

According to Gjini, the 15-year sentence is discriminatory against all families of war victims.

"As a lawyer for the injured party, I want to say that a war criminal has been tried under the laws of the former Yugoslavia, imagine that. The Hague Tribunal presents maximum sentences, while this sentence is very little in relation to the circumstances of the massacre he committed, he massacred the woman's two twin children and the facts are how he cut off their limbs. And for the court to sentence them to 15 years, under the law of the former Yugoslavia, this is discrimination. This is the first time that a member of the Arkanovics, of the Red Berets who committed a crime is being sentenced. We will file an appeal and maybe we will also go to the Hague Tribunal to obtain jurisprudence and court practice on how Yugoslav war criminals with the Red Berets have been sentenced, where there they were sentenced to the maximum sentence, life, while here they are sentenced to 15 years in prison, this is absurd," he said.
