The Food and Veterinary Agency has ordered pig farmers to increase the level of biosecurity or self-defense measures on their farms.
The AUV has raised the alarm due to the outbreak of African swine fever disease in surrounding states. There are already such cases in Albania, Montenegro and recently also in Serbia.
The order is to activate barriers with disinfectants and limit entrances and exits to farms, "through which it is intended to protect the families of farmers and the economy of the state".
AUV-jaka requested that all institutions at the local and central level raise the level of readiness in taking the necessary measures for suspicious cases from the field.
Any citizen or farmer who sees a dead pig or suspected disease must report it.
