The Food and Veterinary Agency (AUV) has rejected the import of a load of 26 tons of thawed meat which it encountered during the inspection control at the "Port of Durrës" border point.

"Today, the veterinary inspectorate of the Food and Veterinary Agency, during the inspection check at the border control point 'Port of Durrës', encountered a load of thawed beef. Because this contradicts the legal criteria of product safety. The inspector immediately decided to reject the import. According to the cargo certificate and the declaration-label of the product, it had to be stored at a temperature below -18 degrees. In view of the measuring equipment of the transport vehicle, and additional measurements with the inspector's own equipment. It turned out that the product was not stored in accordance with the legal norms set for the maximum temperature levels for frozen products. It is also observed visually that the cargo is leaking as a result of the cooling device not functioning properly," the Agency's announcement states.
AUV has further announced that the cargo has been blocked under the supervision of the Kosovo authorities, and will be returned to the country of origin - unless required to be destroyed by the other party.
