At the National Institute of Public Health, a meeting of the Committee for the monitoring of Infectious Diseases was held today, where the viral pneumonia with coronavirus (nCoV-2019) was discussed.
Through a public announcement, it is emphasized that the executive director of the National Institute, Prof. Dr. Naser Ramdani said that the coronavirus has now received a new name, COVID-19.
He emphasized the fact that until now, there is no officially confirmed case of coronavirus in Kosovo.
Doctor Bashkim Gllareva, part of the medical team of the International Airport of Pristina "Adem Jashari", said that until now, 12 examinations of suspected persons with this virus have been carried out at the airport, where most of them have come from countries endemic. However, according to him, none of them have tested positive for coronavirus.
Also, he said that there are two isolation rooms at the airport, where they can put the suspected persons, until they are sent to the Infectious Disease Clinic.
Dr. Xhevat Jakupi, Head of the Department of Microbiology, at the National Institute, said that they have already received the tests for testing the coronavirus, with which up to 650 suspicious people can be tested.
Dr. Faik Hoti, from the Ministry of Health said that initially the most urgent need is for the supply of personal protective equipment. As for the published communiques, he said that they are of great importance, because according to him, the public wants to get the information from the official institutions.
Dr. Lindita Ajazaj, director of the Infectious Disease Clinic, said that in this Clinic there are a total of 21 infectious disease specialists and 72 nurses, which, according to her, could present problems in the event of a case of coronavirus, due to the small number of staff, to deal with eventual cases.
Bafti Murati, from the Veterinary and Food Agency, said that they are in a state of readiness to act in the event of the possibility of the spread of this virus from animals to humans.
The committee for the monitoring of communicable diseases has fulfilled all WHO and ECDC recommendations in coordinating activities, managing and informing citizens about the new coronavirus COVID-19.
