The Food and Veterinary Agency has destroyed 21 tons of meat that were kept in the warehouse of the Islamic Community of Kosovo, located in Veternik, Pristina. This meat was spoiled, and dangerous to eat.
Such a thing has been confirmed by the media spokesperson at AUVK, Lamir Thaçi. He told Koha.net that 21 tons of beef, the type of beef, was found in the warehouse of BIK, which was determined to be unfit for consumption, as it was not frozen in time. Thaçi announced that they had received a request from BIK officials to check the meat warehouse.
He said that the cooling capacity of the warehouse did not freeze the meat at the required temperature and as a result the meat spoiled.
"Based on the request submitted by officials of the Islamic Community for doubts about the safety of the meat of the sacrifices, which they had stored in the contracted warehouse located in Veternik-Prishtina, which was dedicated for distribution to citizens of the Islamic faith , the Veterinary Inspectors of the Food and Veterinary Agency immediately carried out the control of the warehouse. There they encountered a quantity of 21 tons of beef type meat. After the detailed inspection, the inspectors have assessed that initially the meat stored there was not frozen in time. The cooling capacity of the warehouse has not been able to freeze the meat at the necessary storage temperature and as a result it has come to the point of contamination or spoilage of the meat. From the physical and organoleptic control, it was found that the meat has started to change color, some of the packages have had blood flow, which proves that the meat has been thawed and refrozen and has started to smell (the process of putrification has started)", he said initially. .
"Based on the laws in force and standard control procedures, based on the aforementioned findings, the inspectors have decided to dispose of the entire amount of 21 tons because it does not meet the conditions for consumption. Immediately, the Islamic Community created the conditions for destruction according to the decision of the Inspectors. The destruction started today and is being carried out by the waste cleaning company, in the waste dump in Obiliq under the supervision of the AUV inspectors", added Thaçi.
