Another person arrested for war crimes in Zubin Potok

The Kosovo Special Prosecution Office, in a joint statement with the Kosovo Police, announced that another person has been arrested in the Municipality of Zubin Potok for the "War Crimes" case.

He is suspected of having committed the criminal offense of "War crimes against the civilian population".

"Regarding the 'war crimes' case in the municipality of Zubin-Potok, the Kosovo Police - Directorate for the Investigation of War Crimes, by order of the Special Prosecution of the Republic of Kosovo, has arrested another suspect with the initials JR. The suspect is suspected of having committed the criminal offense 'War crimes against the civilian population'," the announcement states.

The Serbian List has reacted by saying that several people were arrested and several houses were raided on Sunday alone. 

"This behavior constitutes a serious violation of human rights and further sows fear and insecurity among the Serbian population. It is absolutely unacceptable to terrorize an entire municipality under the pretext of an investigation into suspected war crimes. Not everyone who was of age in 1999 can be declared potential war criminals," the response states. 

"Kossev" has also reported with sources about other arrests. It wrote that a Serb was arrested in Jarinje and another in Zubin-Potok.

It is further announced that the arrest of the suspect is the result of intensive investigative work conducted by the Special Prosecution Office.

Excavations are underway in the village of Kalludër e Vogël in Zubin Potok, as it is suspected that the bodies of 23 people, known as the "group of intellectuals" from the Mitrovica region, are in that area. They were kidnapped on April 19, 1999. Now, 27 years later, their fate has not been fully clarified.

A day earlier, after visiting this area, acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti warned that excavations could take months, due to the difficult terrain and the possible scattering of bones.
