Arian Gashi elected head of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council

Arian Gashi has been elected head of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council. 

Presenting his priorities, Gashi said that he will initially commit to increasing cooperation with the members of the Council and with the Acting Chief State Prosecutor. According to him, the risk of violating fundamental principles has been great, therefore the focus of his work will be on protecting these principles and not protecting the interests of certain groups.

He has also promised increased transparency and greater openness towards the media, saying that the Prosecutorial Council should not be "barricaded", as he said has happened in the past.

He added that during his mandate he will strive to ensure that the work of the KPK is guided on the basis of constitutional guarantees, with equal and impartial treatment.

The Kosovo Prosecutorial Council has elected Dardan Vuniqi as Deputy Head of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council.

Haxhiu: Gashi's election is an important step in advancing justice reform

The Speaker of the Assembly, Albulena Haxhiu, said that the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker is an important step in implementing recent legal changes and advancing justice reform. 

"I welcome the meeting of the Prosecutorial Council, in which the Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson were elected, an important step in the implementation of recent legal changes and in advancing justice reform. This process marks a new phase for the Prosecutorial Council and demonstrates the commitment of our institutions to an independent, transparent and accountable justice system," Haxhiu wrote on Facebook.
