The Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction in Tirana has decided to suspend the prison sentence of former Prishtina Municipal Assembly member and former member of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Besnik Mujeci, who was convicted of drug trafficking. According to the decision, Mujeci and another defendant, Mithat Ramadani, will be released on parole for a four-year probationary period, during which they are obliged not to violate the law and to stay in contact with the Probation Service.
The Court of Appeal in Tirana has decided to terminate the prison sentence of former Pristina Municipality assemblyman Besnik Mujeci.
With the decision, the Appeals Court states that the sentence of 4 years and eight months for Mujeci has been replaced with a suspended sentence and to be in contact with the Probation Service.
The decision states that Mujeci and the other defendant, Mithat Ramadani, can return to prison if they do not commit any other criminal offenses during this period.
"Enforcing decision No. 3114, dated 26.12.2024 of the Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction of Tirana, with this amendment: Based on Article 59 of the Criminal Code, the suspension of the execution of the prison sentence and the placement on probation of the defendant Mithat Ramadani, for a period of 4 (four) years. - Based on Article 59 of the Criminal Code, the suspension of the execution of the prison sentence and the placement on probation of the defendant Besnik Mujeci, for a period of 4 (four) years. - The defendants are ordered to maintain contact with the probation service. - The immediate release of the defendants Mithat Ramadani and Besnik Mujeci is ordered, unless they are held for other lawful reasons," the decision states.
This decision was made after Mujec's defense, represented by lawyer Marsel Çaushaj, filed an appeal with the Court of Appeals, requesting an amendment to the verdict issued in December of last year.

In the appeal filed, Çaushaj emphasized that his client has served part of the sentence and that the measure should be mitigated, applying the provisions for suspension of the execution of imprisonment.
An appeal against this decision may be filed with the High Court within 45 days of receiving notification of the decision.
Mujeci was sentenced by the Court of First Instance in Tirana on December 26, 2024, to four years and eight months in prison, after being caught in a police operation in August 2023. where over 11 thousand ecstasy tablets with the "Louis Vuitton" brand logo were seized, worth over 400 thousand euros.
The judge for media in the Appeals Court, Edlira Petri, has explained that convicts who do not have Albanian citizenship, including Mujeci, are obliged to be in contact with the Probation Service in Kosovo, an institution within the Ministry of Justice.
