Analyst and historian Ben Andoni assessed that the European Political Community Summit, which was held in Tirana, was an appropriate occasion for a face-to-face meeting between representatives of Kosovo and Serbia.
At this summit, Kosovo was represented by President Vjosa Osmani and Serbia by President Aleksandar Vučić.
"These summits enable, from a bureaucratic perspective, countries that have problems to communicate directly, face to face. You have seen, Armenia and Azerbaijan found a moment for the two heads of state to speak. It was an opportunity for the bureaucrats of Kosovo and Serbia to come to an understanding and speak directly face to face in Tirana. There was no better place for Kosovo than to talk in Tirana, but unfortunately such a thing did not happen," Andoni said in an interview for KTV's "Interaktiv".
Andoni, however, said that President Osmani made a proper request for the measures to be lifted on Kosovo. He said that it is absurd for Kosovo to face such measures and for presidents of states that have not sanctioned Russia to be welcomed with kindness.
He assessed the summit held in Tirana as very positive. According to him, such organizations have an impact on Tirana's diplomatic approach. Andoni said that Tirana is taking the spotlight from Belgrade, which used to hold such organizations.
Regarding Kosovo-Albania cooperation, Andoni said that despite disagreements between the leaders, "official Tirana has helped Kosovo."
Here he mentioned Kosovo's efforts for admission to the Council of Europe and UNESCO. However, he said that "Kosovo should cooperate more with Albania in this case, because Albania cannot do this alone."
"There should also be coordination from Kosovo for its greater logistical needs. I am sorry to say that Kosovo has not been doing this for a long time. I think part of the blame lies with the executive of (Kosovo Prime Minister, Albin) Kurti. But the second and third level bureaucrats have the greatest merit in maintaining this relationship," Andoni assessed.
