The Palestinian Ambassador to Albania, Sami Mhanna, has said that they do not recognize Kosovo due to the establishment of its embassy in Jerusalem in 2021.
In a statement to "Euronews Albania", Mhanna said that he is aware of Albanians' support for Palestine and that the Palestinian people have no problem with the people of Kosovo.
"Since Kosovo established its embassy in Jerusalem, we consider it a clear violation of international law. This is why Palestine does not recognize Kosovo," he said.
Regarding Albania's stance in international forums, where it has often positioned itself neutrally towards the Palestinian issue, the ambassador expressed disappointment. The ambassador added that he would like Albanians to talk more about the Palestinian issue and show more solidarity.
Kosovo had established its embassy in Jerusalem, recognizing it as the capital of Israel, among the first countries in the world. The decision was made with the mediation of US President Donald Trump, during discussions of what is known as the Washington Agreement between Kosovo and Serbia in September 2020.
There have recently been protests in Kosovo in solidarity with the Palestinians, following Israel's heavy attacks on Gaza.
