The world organization for the protection of children, UNICEF, in partnership with the European Union in Kosovo marked the World Children's Day on Wednesday, for which the importance of protecting children's rights was emphasized.
The EU ambassador in Kosovo, Aivo Orav, said that November 20 is very important because many years ago, according to him, important documents for their rights were approved at the United Nations.
He said that these documents have an important role for all children around the world.
Orav said that "children are the beginning, middle and end of all stories".
He emphasized that Kosovo has completed the legislative framework for the protection of children, while adding that the focus should now be on the development of financial schemes that support social protection policies for vulnerable children and families in need of social protection.

"Today, November 20, is a very important date for all of us, as many important documents were approved at the United Nations many years ago. It may seem like something not important, but these documents are first of all the declaration of children's rights and the convention of children's rights. Such international agreements have a role for all of us who are here today, but also for all children around the world. We are here today for you, children are the beginning, middle and end of all stories. I am also told that Kosovo has completed the legislative framework for child protection which is a very important step forward. Now the focus should be shifted to the development of financial schemes that support social protection policies for vulnerable children and families in need of social protection", said Orav.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Arbërie Nagavci, said on World Children's Day that she is committed to protecting children's rights. She said that the theme chosen this year within this day shows the importance of listening to children's voices today and every day.
In the context of this day, Nagavci said that MESTI has officially opened the week against dropping out of school.
"On this very important day, not only for our little ones but also for all of us, in Kosovo we develop a large number of activities, knowing the indisputable importance that we must devote to the existence and guarantee of the rights of children today and every day. We reaffirm our commitment to protect the rights and well-being of all children in Kosovo... On this day, MEST officially opens the 'Week against school dropout' campaign, which aims to, with numerous awareness-raising activities to happen throughout the week, to distribute and activate all institutions, organizations and the community of parents in awareness-raising activities. Children are the dreams we aspire to realize as a society, the leaders we hope to raise in the best possible way", emphasized Nagavci.
The Minister of Justice, Albulena Haxhiu, said that work has been done as a priority in the drafting of general social policies, which strengthen the family by protecting it and advancing, according to her, the rights of children.

Haxhiu: Children need care and protection every day of the year
Haxhiu emphasized that a deep reform has been developed which focuses, among other things, on the care, protection and social welfare of children, especially the vulnerable category.
Among other things, she mentioned that the Government of Kosovo has allocated about 1 million euros more than this year from the budget of Kosovo, for organizations that deal with family issues.
"As the Minister of Justice, we have developed a deep reform of social services policies, ensuring that part of this reform is the care, protection and also the social well-being of children. In particular, children without parental care, children with special needs, street children, children who are victims of the use of psychoactive substances, abused, neglected, mistreated children and other categories of vulnerable children. We have drafted the new law for social and family services and we are working on the drafting of by-laws arising from this law that defines clear powers for each institution in relation to social and family issues", said Haxhiu.
Meanwhile, the director of the Office for Good Governance, Habit Hajredini said that despite the achievements in this field, there is a lot of work done for children's rights.
Within this event, the children present had the opportunity to ask questions to the leaders of the institutions in Kosovo and beyond, regarding their requests and complaints.
