Alijaj: Kurti is not ready to offer the position of president to LDK

Analyst Artan Alijaj said that the Vetëvendosje Movement is not ready to offer the position of president to the Democratic League of Kosovo. He assessed this position as "very important" and not "merely ceremonial" as political actors have called it.

Alijaj emphasized that in the negotiations between LVV and LDK, the position of the prime minister and the speaker of parliament should be discussed, while that of the president should be "unifying".

"Both Kurti and LVV are not ready to offer the position of president to LDK. Perhaps the offer that Kurti made was for the position of speaker of the Assembly and some government positions... Kurti is in a slightly easier position compared to all opposition parties. The fact that there have been problems within political parties, in this case in LDK, is probably thought to mean that LDK will have a more open approach regarding negotiations with LVV. On the other hand, it seems that LVV is also rigid in its position. But while the parties talk about party interests and appetites, the interests of the state are being hurt," he said in Interaktiv.

Alijaj added that without a compromise agreement between LVV and LDK, avoiding new elections will be difficult, and according to him, they will have a negative effect on all parties.

"Going to the electoral process could have a negative effect on LDK, this is additional pressure for them and every political party. I don't think any party has an interest in going to the elections, but if a compromise agreement is not reached between LVV and LDK, then there will be very few alternatives to not going to the elections," he said.

The third attempt to reach an agreement between the Vetevendosje Movement and the Democratic League on the formation of institutions failed on Wednesday. The meeting between the leader of the Vetevendosje Movement, Albin Kurti, and the leader of the LDK, Lumir Abdixhiku, did not produce an agreement either. Unlike the previous two meetings, Wednesday's meeting was held in the Parliament building, without prior announcement.
