War crimes indictment against a former Pristina Prison guard

Former Pristina Prison

The Special Prosecution has filed an indictment against BT, former guard of the Pristina Prison, for the criminal offense of "War crimes against the civilian population".

According to the indictment, BT, in his capacity as a guard of the Pristina Prison and the parallel prison in Lipjan, in complicity with other guards, during the period 1998-1999, acting intentionally, violated the rules of international law during the armed conflict, respectively, the wartime in Kosovo.

"There is a well-founded suspicion that, in a systematic manner, they had mistreated Albanian prisoners, torturing them inhumanely with various means, such as rubber batons, metal rods, kicks and punches to the point of fainting, causing them bodily injuries and psychological violence," the Prosecution's announcement states.

According to the indictment, the defendant, in co-perpetration, had left the prisoners without food for days, had seriously threatened their lives and, as a result of the constant beatings and inhumane treatment, they suffered a state of constant anxiety and fear.
