AKK neither confirms nor denies the criminal complaint against Berishaj

The director of the Anti-Corruption Agency, Yll Buleshkaj, has stated that he can neither confirm nor deny the claim that the AKK has filed a criminal report against the Kosovo ambassador to Croatia, Martin Berishaj.

"I can neither confirm nor deny your claim", said Buleshkaj to KOĖN, while addressing the matter to the Agency's media office.

Even AKK has not officially clarified whether the criminal complaint against Berisha has been filed.

From the media office of this agency, they say that "AKK is obliged to respect the legal provision of Law No. 08/L-01703/ on the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption, which entered into force in August of this year and the same has determined with Article 28 (Publication, data protection, data storage and information confidentiality) that: Agency officials, any person employed by the Agency, as well as all persons who are made aware of official secrecy during cooperation with The Agency, are obliged to keep as classified information any information they have learned during the exercise of their duty, which is considered the secrecy of official information, in accordance with the relevant law in force".

According to the agency, in terms of this law, the official classified information law is considered the information related to the personal data of individuals that are or have been the object of an administrative investigation by the Agency.

"The agency is obliged to preserve the data, information and documentation received on the basis of this law and in accordance with the provisions of the legislation in force. This legal provision is of special importance because during the handling of the case, the Prosecutor's Office can drop the criminal complaint or conduct criminal investigations and prosecutions", it is further stated in the Agency's written response.

The member of the Presidency of the LDK, Jehona Lushaku Sadriu, has said that the Anti-Corruption Agency (AKK) has today filed a criminal report against the ambassador of Kosovo in Croatia, Martin Berishaj.

Two other opposition parties, the Democratic Party of Kosovo and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, have called for Berishaj's dismissal.
