The Chairman of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Lumir Abdixhiku, reacted to the start of works on "George Bush" Square in Pristina, saying that the Municipality gave a "dignified response to those blocking the work".
He wrote on Facebook on Monday that “partisan and angry inspectors somewhere in a ministry decided to block an entire capital.” According to Abdixhiku, the works in Pristina will not stop.
"Today, the Municipality of Pristina gave a dignified response to the work blockers. Keep working! A Commission, somewhere in a Ministry, with one or two partisan and angry inspectors, decided to block our Capital, with the reasons of protecting the heritage. This heritage is a ruined asphalt?! The works continued! They will not stop! He who has his mind on the work does not stop. Pristina, it doesn't stop!", wrote the LDK leader.
Abdixhiku added that for three years there has been a continuous blockade in the capital.
"The incompetents only know how to block! For three years in a row they have continuously blocked George Bush Square for a legacy, the overpass in Dragodan also for a legacy; the underpass to the Parliament again and of course for a legacy. They have blocked Road A for a case that was ultimately lost in court; the Outer Ring Road with the non-approval of a loan almost for nothing; the Municipal Development Plan with distorted business-party interests, and personal taxes with anti-constitutional laws!", he added, while saying that "you have to be really wicked for such behavior."
"You have to hate an entire city so much to block it so much! Pristina will win. Now, and in the fall! Let the work continue! The work will continue! This ruin will soon become one of the most iconic squares in the country!", he said.
The Municipality of Pristina on Monday resumed works on "George Bush" Square, despite the ban imposed by the Cultural Heritage Inspectorate.
Present at the launch of the works were the Mayor of Pristina, Përparim Rama, officials from the Municipal Inspectorate, and officials from the Kosovo Police.
Work on "George Bush" has been halted twice in a row.
The Municipality's project, which weighs 18.4 million euros, has not been approved by the cultural heritage bodies.
The works have been stopped twice by the Cultural Heritage Inspectorate, while the Municipality has been requested to complete the permit application from the Kosovo Institute for the Protection of Monuments (IKMM).
The main point of disapproval is also the new buildings that are foreseen in the project.
