The leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Lumir Abdixhiku, has said that his party has no appetite to take the position of Speaker of the Assembly, describing it as a ceremonial figure that belongs to the first party according to the Constitution.
After concluding his meeting with acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti on Tuesday, Abdixhiku said that there is additional time for other issues.
"If we don't have an agreement by August 6, we have told him to continue the constitution. The LDK has no appetite for the Speaker of the Assembly, because he is a ceremonial figure who should represent the proposal of the first party, as the Constitution states. For other issues, we have additional time. The more times we make solutions, the better," he said.
Abdixhiku further described the three-hour meeting with Kurti as successful, announcing that they will try to continue the talks in the coming days. He added that the LDK entered these discussions with good will, respecting the election results and with the aim of avoiding holding new elections.
"We participated in the second meeting after June 7 with good will, respect for the election result and the readiness as LDK to avoid new elections, thus respecting the interest of LDK and the state. It was a good, successful meeting. We addressed the issues of programmatic, political changes and strategic futures. We will try to have more substantive discussions in the coming days," said Abdixhiku.
He emphasized that the LDK remains in the positions it has made public previously and that a comprehensive agreement is needed for the formation of institutions.

"We remain within the principles already made public. We need a comprehensive agreement to maintain institutional balance and have democratic balance within institutions. Within these balances, the LDK must feel represented, otherwise the political constellation will not have the necessary power," he said.
Abdixhiku announced that meetings with Kurti will continue, warning that failure to reach an agreement would lead the country towards new elections.
"If we do nothing, the only guaranteed scenario is new elections," declared the LDK leader.
