Sunday's vote did not take the mandates from the mayors of the municipalities in the north. Since they are expected to exercise their function until the regular elections, the two PDK leaders who perform their duties in alternative offices, are expected to soon be placed in municipal facilities.
The mayor of Zubin Potok has returned to the municipal facility, a year after exercising his mandate from an alternative office. The reason for the return was the session of the Municipal Assembly in which it was decided to establish a Commission for the verification of municipal properties.
Until last year the arrival of the mayor of Zubin Potok, Izmir Zeqiri in the Municipal Assembly was accompanied by violent protests, his return after a year did not impress the Serbian citizens, who had a charity activity near the municipality.
On the day when the session was held at the House of Culture, which is adjacent to the municipal facility, music was played outside as part of an action to collect money for the recovery of two children from Zubin Potoku.
After completing work, the mayor Zeqiri and the councilors left the municipal building.
"Today, in cooperation with the chairman, we have called an emergency session to be held in the facility of the municipality of Zubin Potok. The main reason for the session was the establishment of a commission for the acceptance of the facility as a whole, all the offices, that is, to identify the situation. The first point was the approval of the last session, minutes. It was a very short session, but it is important to establish the commission, so they prepare the ground for the functionalization of all departments in the municipality", said Zeqiri for KOĖN.
Last year, Zeqiri and the other two mayors from the north were confronted with violent protests, after for the first time they entered the municipal facilities that, until April 23, were managed by Lista Serbe.
The decision of Zeqiri and the other chairman from the ranks of the PDK in Zveçan, Ilir Peci, to go to the municipal offices, happens a few days after the vote for their dismissal failed.
The mayor of Zveçan is also expected to come to the office next week.
After the tensions that were created in the north and the protests organized by the Serbs, who did not allow them to exercise their functions from the municipal facilities, they responded to the call of the internationals to exercise their duties from alternative offices.
Now Zeqiri has said that he will exercise his mandate from the municipal facility, at the entrance of which the symbols of the state of Kosovo have been placed.
"We will be back soon even though we have started even earlier with some offices there which were possible and prepared, such as the office for issuing municipal documents, but not all of them are in operation. After the Commission completes its work, including the mayor's office, we will begin to make each office functional. We circulate on a daily basis where there is a need, the offices where we operate are also annexed and we believe that we will soon continue the work everywhere", he said.
The head of Vetëvendosje, Lulzim Hetemi, refused to leave the facility of Leposaviq Municipality, even though his presence there was opposed for several weeks with protests, in which mainly journalists who were the target of attacks by violent protesters suffered.
There was noise not only in North Mitrovica, after the election of the chairman from among the Vetëvendosje Movement, Erden Atiq, who continues to exercise his mandate from the municipal facility.
